Hey guys, look! Fanart!
I was thinking this morning about the characters that have had the most impact on my style and who had inspired me the most. These guys are at the top. They’re the ones that I spent the most time drawing. ( and it feels pretty awesome to draw them again!) There were some others but these guys left the most indelible imprint.
Every time I got into a new character or fandom my style took a turn and it was very exciting. At the beginning of course, it was all about inspiration and drawing as much as I could, but when I got into Jak and Daxter and Transformers animated and was driven by the art styles of Bob Rafai and Derrick Wyatt respectively, those drove my art into something different.
I always think that it’s important to have fun and fanart is just one of the many ways that you can drive your vision and your skill level up.
I also cherish the people that I met through the love of these characters as well –they know who they are-who loves ya?!
What started out back at the very beginning of my love of characters as just alleviating boredom; and trying not to feel so alone has turned into my career. My art is something that I try everyday to improve on and I’m so glad that these guys helped me in the ways that they did.
If you’re looking to improve your art I would recommend finding your own style through the things that you like. It’s a very jaggedy journey, with weird twists and turns, but it’s very fun and I’m kinda jealous cause I don’t have time to do things like this as much as I’d like anymore.
Have fun, keep drawing, don’t expect it to happen overnight you will see improvement if you ENJOY what you do.
I would love to know as well, do fandoms and fanart help your style and drawing abilities?
